14 April 2010 – Abu Dhabi, UAE: Abu Dhabi International Airport welcomed Norman Surplus, a.k.a. “AutoGyro Man,” to the emirate yesterday evening, as part of the UK adventurer’s world record attempt to circumnavigate the world in a gyrocopter – while raising awareness for the charity Bowel Cancer UK.
Aiming to be the first to achieve a FAI "First Absolute World Record" for circumnavigating the world by gyrocopter (mini-helicopter), Surplus, a 47 year old father of two and himself a cancer-survivor, set off from Northern Ireland on 22 March 2010 and expects the round-the-world expedition to take approximately four to five months.
His route plan is approximately 27,000 miles / 46,000 kilometers with stop-offs in 26 countries.
