Introducing the new & improved Terminal 1

The objective of this ambitious undertaking is to align Terminal 1 with the premium passenger experience offered by Terminal 3.

The facelift is not purely cosmetic - in line with the airport’s large-scale expansion plans, the terminal’s passenger capacity (particularly in the lounges and check-in and immigration areas) is increased to accommodate a continuous rise in traveller numbers.

The new overall design reflects the Arabic culture of the region while remaining modern and simple. High quality finishes, new lighting concepts and landscaped gardens to integrate calming natural elements have been introduced.

Advanced new technologies are implemented throughout the terminal together with revamped restrooms and improvements to the signage and wayfinding aspects of the building, highlighting our commitment to enhancing the passenger journey.

Along with the doubling of the seating capacity of the terminal, upgrades are made to our world-class airport lounges and Airport Hotel, including refurbishments of all finishes and fittings. The updated interior design is stylish and contemporary, creating a restful ambience conducive to the ultimate in passenger comfort.

The project also is seeing the launch of an impressive selection of international and local retail and food and beverage outlets, creating a spectacular range of choice and a heightened passenger experience. For added convenience, the number of foreign exchange counters and ATMs is also increased.

Yusuf Al Jowder, Head of Terminal Operations at Abu Dhabi International Airport, commented: “This step is one of many steps being taken by Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) towards the development of the facilities and services available at the airport. ADAC will continue to strive towards delivering world class services to all of its passengers to ensure each will enjoy a unique journey at Abu Dhabi International Airport.”

Among the several other infrastructural development projects ADAC has undertaken at the airport are the introductions of the multi-storey air-conditioned car park, Skypark, underground passenger tunnels with direct access to the terminals and the addition of a range of car rental companies and banking services.
